AFI names top films, television shows of 2006.

The American Film Institute announced their picks for the top ten films and television shows of 2006.
Films:
Borat
The Devil Wears Prada
Little Miss Sunshine
Dreamgirls
Happy Feet
Inside Man
United 93
Babel
Half Nelson
Letters from Iwo Jima

Personally, I am a little surprised to see Devil wears Prada make the list. While Devil has some amazing performances (Meryl Steep is amazing.), I can't see listing it as one of the best of the year. Anyone that has spoken to me knows I consider Brick to be the best film of 2006. I would also include Lucky Number Slevin before putting Borat on the list. But then any with Sacha Baron Cohen makes me itch.

Television shows:
Battlestar Galactica
Dexter
Elizabeth I
Friday Night Lights
Heroes
The Office
South Park
24
The West Wing
The Wire
Great to see The Wire and Dexter make the list. Both are fantastic and use the freedoms that cable allow to their advantage, making both shows truly special.

The last episode of The Wire IV was surely one of the greatest 75 minutes of TV ever.

I agree with Patti. Incredible season for The Wire. Those kids ... the regulars ... heartbreaking, bittersweet, compelling ... just a great production all around.

Having now seen the entire Dexter season, I can say that this show ROCKED!
I was glued to my tv for the finale, growling when anyone walked past the screen.
